Skin care with heart.
A daily skin care routine has been clinically proven to prevent the development of Incontinence Associated Dermatitis (IAD)2, Pressure Injuries3 and decrease the occurrence of skin tears1. If your patients and those in your care are at risk of painful skin conditions, MoliCare Skin can help to reduce irritation and prevent skin damage.
Incontinence Associated Dermatitis
Incontinence Associated Dermatitis (IAD) is a common pelvic region skin injury that occurs due to prolonged expose to urine and/or faeces. IAD causes pain and distress for individuals and adds to the workload and costs of healthcare professionals.
Prevention and management of IAD consists of assessment and continence promotion strategies, combined with adopting a structured skin care regimen to clean, protect and care for the skin. Clinical evidence recommends using products that maintain the skin’s normal pH, and skin barrier products to minimise skin breakdown from external factors2.

Pressure Injuries
Another common pelvic region skin injury is a pressure injury. The risk of developing a pressure injury increases by 37.5% for those suffering with Incontinence Associated Dermatitis (IAD)4 due to the pre-existing compromised integrity of the skin. IAD and pressure injuries share similar presentations and can co-exist in the same location resulting in misclassifications, delayed healing and increased costs.
Literature points to a structured skin care regime as being key to prevention of pressure injuries, including products to effectively clean, moisturise and protect the skin.
Skin Tears
Skin tears can be painful wounds, affecting quality of life and causing distress. The costs associated with skin tears can be significant, often increasing the likelihood and length of hospitalisation.
Skin tears are often preventable wounds. Clinical evidence shows the application of moisturiser twice daily reduces the incidence of skin tears by almost 50%1.
Prevention of Pelvic Region Skin Injury
Common pelvic region skin injuries such as IAD and pressure injuries can impact patient well-being, causing physical pain and mental distress.
As pelvic region skin injuries are often preventable, implementing the right prevention strategy can improve clinical outcomes for those in your care and reduce the overall burden on your healthcare organisation.
